This subreddit for anything and everything related to Warhammer 40k Rules that are all connected in the 40k universe. ![]() The main attraction of 40k is the miniatures, but there are also many video games, board games, books, ect. ![]() This occurs mostly to facilitate the protagonist meeting up with the female lead - whom I was certain would die horribly, because this is after all still a Graham McNeill novel - at the climax of the third act.Īlso, there’s a Thunder Warrior.Warhammer 40k is a franchise created by Games Workshop, detailing the far future and the grim darkness it holds. Unfortunately, it’s hitched to a dumb plot about a bunch of “traitor” legionnaires - the titular Outcast Dead - that sat out most of the Great Crusade for reasons that are not elaborated on and apparently have no idea what was going on with their respective legions, but nonetheless decide that after they’ve been unjustly imprisoned by the Custodes, they have a duty to betray the Emperor.Īnd just in case you thought that was a contrived plot device, there’s a side story about a fake church built around an evil statue that nobody knows is evil, even though it does evil things, Graham McNeill is not a bad writer (although I have some feelings about how he tends to utilize his female protagonists, more on that later) and he does an excellent job of endowing the Adeptus Astra Telepathica with some real depth and pathos that might otherwise have been lacking if all you knew about astropaths was that they’re psychic fax machines, set against the wider scene of the havoc unleashed by all the nothing wrong that Magnus did. Which is a pity, because I’ve actually really come to enjoy these Terran plots thanks to Chris Wraight’s excellent Watchers of the Throne and Vaults of Terra series. It’s the kind of story that could have been told a dozen books ago, but with no real guiding direction to the series wound up coming at a point where it didn’t really add to the overarching narrative. Which brings us to the Outcast Dead, a book that I didn’t hate but did feel kind of pointless. It’s been a minute since I’ve talked about my return to the Horus Heresy series, but I intentionally skipped Prospero Burns as it’s still fresh enough in my mind after reading it again last year and Age of Darkness read like pilot season for future books (which, coincidentally, is exactly what it was). action figures and vehicles, and brings iconic DC characters based on the comic books, videos games, animation, TV shows and feature films to life. games workshop citadel miniatures forge world tortuga bay fallen worlds etsy warhammer 40k warhammer 30k horus heresy age of darkness adeptus astartes legiones astartes space marines terminator armor saturnine terminator work in progress personal Some additional weapon options wouldn’t hurt, as the kit only comes with stormbolters and power fists, but after sourcing a Deathwing Terminator plasma cannon I’ve found that plastic Indomitus Terminator arms work great for these figures, too.Įven if you don’t wind up using any plastic arms, I would still recommend using the plastic shoulder pads as spacers to support the oversized pauldrons - although, upon retrospect, I think these probably need to be on 50mm bases to accommodate their enormity. I’m normally cool towards third-party alternative armies, but this retro reimagining of Jes Goodwin’s original 1988 Terminator nails the look - even down to the amazingly 80s triple-magazine stormbolter - while incorporating elements of the more contemporary Horus Heresy artwork which is apparently never going to get a model. ![]() The big shoulder look is back courtesy of Tortuga Bay and the Fallen Worlds Store on Etsy.
